The design of this bus stop was inspired by waterfalls. Waterfalls exude energy and like a bus, transport anything on their given route from one point to another. With this bus stop being built in China, water and mountains also take on a deeper significance through the concept of fengshui. Waterfalls are believed to represent fortune. It is said that water and mountains keep the good “Qi” or energy in a place which is why you will almost always find these elements in both ancient and modern designs.
Even with a solid concept, in an architect’s world there is always the challenge of render vs reality. In this case the construction stayed relatively true to form. The lines still resemble abstract waterfalls, but the addition of yellow and red were unforeseen modifications to the design by the client that were intended to inject more energy and color into the space.
We are proud to have been a part of this project. Sometimes compromise is inevitable and concepts don’t always have to be obvious. What matters most is that the design definitely has the functionality we intended and the client is happy.
